I’ll make this review of Robert McCammon’s I Travel By Night short and sweet.
This novella is typical McCammon – well-written, a great story, a wonderful read. It was both too short and just right.
However, at $5.99 it was too much. I’ll pay that for McCammon, somewhat reluctantly, but only for him and less than a handful of others. I don’t know what he and/or his publishers are thinking, but it really is too much to charge. AT MOST it should be $2.99.
It’s a vampire story told in the “Old West” of New Orleans, post-Civil War era. There are a couple of differences to the traditional vampire story. That’s not easy to do (well), and nice to see. Kind of a “Have Gun, Will Travel” story. (almost a vampiric ripoff, really)
There is apparently a sequel in the writing, I Travel By Night 2: Last Train from Perdition, that might be available this year or next. My guess is it will be too costly, as well, and I will pay it.
